In the month of March alone, I lost my phone, car keys,
apartment keys, a lens cap, my only camera battery, a
smattering of paintbrushes, and most concerning
of all: an uncapped X-acto knife, last seen loose in my backpack.
I've been accustomed to certain level of chaos for most of my life as a result of absentmindedness. If none of my belongings are actively missing, that usually means that I just don't know what I've misplaced yet, or that I'm missing something less tangible. Maybe instead it'll be that there's a song at the tip of my tongue, or the itch of a vague memory in some corner of my mind, but it's always something. As an animator and a writer, I've developed an interest in using my art to bridge the gap between written and visual language. This project represents an attempt that, short of eradicating my absentmindedness, seeks to understand it better by giving it physical form as a stop-motion animation. For my capstone project, I set out to make some of the early work necessary in the process of producing an animated short, namely the treatment, a preliminary script, and concept art. I highly recommend starting with the treatment, which is a brief pitch of sorts to explain everything that will happen in the short. Enjoy! |
